Alkaline water is the opposite of acidic water and it has a higher pH than plain water.
pH stands for the potential of hydrogen and is a scale from 0 – 14. 7 is considered neutral, everything below 7 is acidic and everything above 7 is alkaline. The pH scale is logarithmic meaning, it works in multiples of 10. An example of this is pH 8 is 10 times more alkaline than 7, 9 is 100 times and 10 is 1000 times more alkaline than 7.
Water is very important to your cells, tissues, and organs in your body. The best way to stay hydrated: is to drink water throughout the day.
But which kind of water? Some people claim that alkaline water is better than anything you could get from the tap or other bottles of water.
We all know that drinking lots of water each day can help keep your body healthy and keep illnesses at bay. In fact, staying properly hydrated is necessary for every bodily function. Now, though, a product called alkaline water is making waves, with claims that it can balance your body’s pH, help boost energy and even stave off disease.
There are two major theories when it comes to sickness and disease.
1. Alkaline Balance: – The theory: Acidic environments promote bacterial growth, so if you change your diet to be more alkaline (less acidic), you’ll keep harmful bugs away. Also, the body is alkaline by designer meaning it runs in an alkaline state and acidic by function as waste products are typically acidic.
2. Free Radicals: The theory: toxic free radicals are created by stress, diet, pollution, smoking, etc and they destroy or damage your cells and DNA leading to the ever-increasing likelihood of disease and death that accompanies advancing age.
